Conservative Councillors on Leicestershire County Council are proposing to close 24 Children's Centres across the County.
This petition calls on them to change their minds and keep the Centres open.

Leicestershire's Lib Dem opposition have urged the ruling Conservative administration to scrap the charges for using the county's domestic recycling centres.

At the last County Council meeting, Lib Dem Deputy Leader Cllr Stuart Bray (Hinckley St Mary's Division) asked the Leader of the Council if he agreed with the new Conservative Deputy Leader of Derbyshire County Council who said on taking office:

The Tory group on Leicestershire County Council made a surprise announcement at yesterday's budget meeting when they withdrew plans to cut £1.3 million in bus subsidies. This would have led to the discontinuation of any bus that did not currently operate on a purely commercial basis except Park and Ride Services. It is estimated that one third of Leicestershire's buses would have disappeared.

It's been a very eventful year, with some success, but also some disasters.

We Saved Leicestershire's Fire and Rescue Service

This time last year we were concerned over threats to Leicestershire's Fire and Rescue Service. Tory Leader Nick Rushton and Labour Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby looked set to force through draconian cuts that would have closed two fire stations and reduced the number of fire engines by a third. Despite warnings from unions and ex-fire officers, it looked as though they were set to press ahead, but our campaigning work paid off and they were eventually forced to u-turn.

The Liberal Democrats have sparked a debate on Grammar Schools at Leicestershire County Council. This follows the Theresa May's announcement that the Government wish to re-introduce selective schooling.

At Wednesday's meeting, they will propose a motion that celebrates the success of Leicestershire's Comprehensive Schools and warns against the problems that re-introducing selective schools could bring.

Conservative-run Leicestershire County Council is looking at closing Desford Library unless the volunteer group, who are offering to run it for free, take financial responsibility for £45,000 worth of repairs. Following advice from their solicitor, the volunteers are refusing to take on this £45,000 financial liability.

We the undersigned call on the County Council to give the Desford volunteers the support they need in order to keep Desford library open.
